Allegheny Country Wrestling Championships

By mwilkins12 - Posted on 19 January 2012

STU Member Mike Wilkins has been kind enough to put together some information about the Allegheny Wrestling wrestling scene this week. We will continue to cover wrestling more and more each week.

Last weekend also played host to the Allegheny County Wrestling Championships held at Fox Chapel High School.  40 teams from all over the county gathered in the Fox Chapel gymnasium for 2 days of exciting wrestling.

When the dust settled Hampton School District was left standing a top the 40 team field.  Pittsburgh Central Catholic, North Allegheny, Upper St. Clair, and Chartiers Valley rounded out the top 5 in that order.

Stellar individual performances were turned in by Vincenzo Joseph (Pittsburgh Central Catholic, 106lbs), Godwin Nyama (Brasher, 120lbs), and Noah Shulman (Hampton, 285lbs) pinning all opponents on way to County Gold.

*Interesting Fact: Sean Clair (Renzo Gracie Pittsburgh) who will be fighting Saturday Jan. 21st in the NAAFS, was the very first 4x Champion in Allegheny County Tournament History.

Hey, thanks for the Allegheny Country Wrestling Championships. But I guess lot of changes going on. Really need to be back in the game.

This is the 1st year for the new weight classes.

Is this a national change curt?

Follow Me @StandThemUp or On Facebook

Yes sir. It was approved by the NFHS Wrestling Rules Committee (National governing body of HS wrestling). My old weight classes remain unchanged, however.

I'm fairly certain that there were changes made because of the lack of wrestlers that were able to wrestle in the 103 lb weight class. There was also a huge gap between the upper weight classes (189, 215, 285) which made injuries a very real possibility for some of the mid-level big boys.

Great article! I was searching for something entirely different when I came across your site. I thoroughly enjoyed the thought you put into this writing. I will bookmark to return later. ez lease rentals complaints
