Clairton Boxing Gym shut down:

According to the Tribune Review:

Clairton officials' decision to sell a building used by an amateur boxing group and members of a community outreach program has left both groups homeless.

The lease agreement required the league to pay for utilities and maintenance costs. City officials say those costs have gone unpaid for years, causing the building to fall into disrepair. Clairton pays about $1,500 a month in utilities for the building, said city Manager Richard Cannone.

Some of the displaced fighters are reportedly training at the Carrick Community Boxing Academy on Brownsville Rd.  Freddie Latham has battled Ed "Worst Case Scenario" Latimore on three different occasions, losing the third by KO in the second round.

Local boxing promoter Jimmy Cvetic adds:

Jimmy Cvetic, a retired Allegheny County police officer and representative of the Western Pennsylvania Police Athletic League, said though he does think the programs helped combat street violence in Clairton, he is "not mad at city council."

"They didn't have the money, and we didn't have the money. We could no longer sustain it," he said.

This is another blow to the Clairton community and is just another reason to avoid the neighborhood completely. You know unless drugs, gangs and killing people are your thing, which in that case Viva La Clairton!
