WCC Results and Play by Play
Allow me to be the first to tell you that tonight’s WCC IV event was a complete and total success from start to finish. The venue was standing room only and the crowd was great. If this is what Pittsburgh MMA looks like in the years to come, we are in great shape as a community. Below are the amateur play by play and results. I have videos of Jimmy Cerra vs. Dave Crockett along all of the pro bouts that I will put out tomorrow.
Check out the rest after the jump:
Steven Jones Vs. Shawn Downs
Rd:1 Jones opens with a jab. Downs Shoots and drives him right to the fence. Hes working for a single and gets it. He hits the ground and passes immediately. Jones rolls for the knee and uses it to sweep nicely. Jones moves to an unusual half guard where Downs leg is stuck in a figure four position with Jones on top. A stray punch hits Downs high on the forehead which is technically illegal, but hey it’s a cage fight I guess. Downs works his way out at the bell.
Rd:2 Low kick lands hard for Jones. Downs shoots a single and pushes him into the fence. He drags him down but jones ends up on his back. He’s high and Downs drags him off. Knee to the body from Downs. Jones is working for the rubber guard. Jones passes smoothly to mount and is working to land a clean, legal shot. Jones rolls out at the bell.
Rd: 3 They exchange straight punches on the feet and Downs shoots again. Jones rolls under for the arm but Downs defends. Downs works into a kimura and is cranking but Jones gives the thumbs up. Jones rolls though and ends up in Downs’ guard. He’s got a guillotine but it’s not locked up and the horn ends the round.

Shawn Downs wins via decision
Alec Hohman Vs. Jamie Fleck
Rd:1 Hohman brought a crowd with him. They touch gloves and Fleck drives forward. Hohman reverses him strongly and gets the takedown. He’s already in sidemount. Fleck is pulling his head down but Hohman passes through and moves to north south. The ref has seen enough and restarts them on their feet. It’s short lived though because Hohman drags him back down immediately.
Rd:2 Fleck slides a right hook in as they clinch. Both guys exchange knees and Hohman swings him down with a single. Hohmans in half guard and is landing some loud body shots. The amateur rules are really stifling the ground work here. The ref puts back on their feet again. Fleck throws wide and drives him to the fence at the bell.
Rd:3 Fleck forces a right hand through and Hohman feeds him one of his own. Fleck pressures Hohman against the fence and muscles him down. Hohman passes to mount and sits for the arm. Fleck stacks him but Hohman sweeps him. They are fighting for the arm at the horn but Flecks arm was completely locked out. Apparently Fleck tapped with one second left in the round.

Shawn Kelly Vs. Sean White
Rd:1 They touch and circle. Kelly pushes for the body lock and lands a really nice hockey punch. White loses his balance and they are on the floor. White is on his back against the fence and Kelly is working.
Rd: 2 I had to step away for the majority of this round but both White and Kelly had their moments on the feet and White spent the rest of his time on his back.
Rd:3 Snap kick lands hard for White. But Kelly makes him pay for it with a hard single leg slam. He passes to cross body and is working but the action is stopped due to a missing mouth piece. Kelly takes him right back down again and passes to side mount. The ref brings them back to their feet. White bombs a right hand but is taken down hard at the bell.

Shawn Kelly wins via decision.
Dave Sholtes Vs. Mike Scheib
Rd:1 Body kick and a right hand lands hard for Scheib and Sholtes is down. Hes not out, just stunned but he is also stuck in a arm-in guillotine. Sholtes defends well and timed his escape perfectly. Hes actually reversed the position and are in north south. Scheib rolls and is out. They are grappling against the fence at the bell.
Rd:2 Low kick from SSholts lands abut Schieb fires a series of kicks ending with a spinning back kick that lands hard. He misses and uppercut and they are clinched. Hes stuck in a guillotine but fights out. Sholtes scores two hard left hands and Scheib shoots. Shotles defends and is back in north south. He is working the north south choke now and Schieb taps.

Dave Sholtes wins via submission rd. 2
Jonas Rubiano Vs. Cody Karlheim
Rd:1 A Jab lands for Rubiano early and then another. He walks into a straight right and Karlhiem is unloading here. Rubiano kicks and Karlheim catches it. He throws Rubiano down hard but he doesn’t stay down long. They are swinging hard at each other with wide hooks and now Karlheim’s down. Rubiano’s all over him. He’s in mount but karlheim defends. The pace slows and chip Snyders stands them up (shameless plug but I gotta get in somewhere). Another exchange and they are locked up at the bell.
Rd:2 Karlkheim lands a big hook but Rubiano is pretty rugged and keeps moving. He lands a kick and a jab of his own but Karlhiem wrangles him to the floor. Karlhiem’s bleeding badly and they bring the doctor in. A low kick from Kalrhiem almost turns Rubiao around. Rubiano wades in but eats a straight right hand, left hook that had him wincing. Karlhiem pushes him into the fence at the bell.
Rd:3 Superman lands for Rubiano and they are against the fence. Karlheim pushes him against the fence and they are clinched. Rubiano opens with a series of hard unanswered knees to the body. Karlhiem jumps for an armbar but Rubiano shucks him off. Rubiano opens up with a nick Diaz combination of hooks and uppercuts against the fence. Karlhiem defends with single shot counters but hes wilting fast. Rubiano is pouring it on him here. Snyder jumps in with a few seconds left in the round.

Jonas Rubiano lives up to the hype and wins via TKO Rd.3
Editor note: That was an awesome fight I can only hope I do it justice.
Jarred Laskey Vs. John Hansen
Rd:1 Loud low lands and Laskey slips but is right back up and is on him. Wow that was fast. Hansen drops for the leg and Laskey takes his back. Hes high but hes making it work. Laskey goes for the armbar from back mount but misses it. Hansen pops up and out but Laskey pulls him back to guard.
Rd:2 Low kick lands for Hansen and he getds a right hand though. Hansen gets a straight combination through and lands a left hook laed. . loaskey clinches him up and knees him into the fence. Hansen unloads with a hook as he back out. Hansen misses a kick . Laskey comes back with a right hand that miess and they are exchanging straight shots. Low kick lands for Laskey.
