Best fighter in Pittsburgh?
Lets talk about that question... . First off there is alot of "best Fighters" in the burg. One, you have to seperate the two. That title cannot be defined by one form of fighting. There are top MMA guys whos standup game is subnovice, novice, at best. The best boxers.. . . have no ground skill or competion experience. so.... how can you give just one guy the overall title. Chris custer donnie kacher and eric hibler are no dought 3 of the best fighters in pittsburgh. peried. But then saying the best. . . you still have paul spadafore, hands down no contest. sammy vasquez and Andreas. monty clay. These are guys that are currently competing. There are a few other guys who dont fight anymore...but you said at anytime..? kickboxing has disapeared prety much so we wont look at a few of those guys... But to put guys in for this title so to speak of pittsburghs best. You must consider... how many fights they have? amateur, pro, titles won. ever compete in national tournys, world championships, big name oppenents, faught natl.rankd fighters. open division fighters. are they awsome at grappling and stand up. have they ever made a champion? etc.etc etc. take this with a grain of salt. just saying. thers alot of talent out there. Talent in differnt areas, talent in all areas. Before you consider anyone for this "voted by your peers, best in pittsburgh" make sure you think about all the factors, and not just who your friends with. One it comes to pure skill.LoL i definitly no one name you forgot to mention friend. later train hard.

Sammy Vasquez looks pretty impressive early in his career. Big KO last night vs. Sosa.
Andreas Kamouerou had a very "honest" Pro Debut and looked pretty good with a fourth round KO.
These are two promising Pittsburgh Fighters with very bright futures.
Having a pro fight card sat nov 26 @ Greentree sports Plex.. Featuring "Lightning" Rod Salka, need local fighters for undercard..contact Mike 412-708-2190
Now that would be the very best way to see just who is the very best fighter in Pittsburgh. Well, that is if Spadafora would take the fight. However that woud be CRAZY on Spadafora's part for it would certainly end his career. Lubash would KO him for sure. I would like to see that fight as would all Pittsburgh boxing fans, although i would be concerned for what harm could come to Spadafora from getting hit by the powerful and younger Lubash. Now that would be crazy for Spadafora, tring to endure the onslaught and punching power of Lubash.
I was there the two times Lubash boxed with Spadafora at the gym, and it was certainly an embarassment for Spadafora. That was three and a half years ago, Lubash had 2 or 3 fights at that time. Certainly an embarassment for a undefeated former world champ. Lubash would KO Spadafora at this time in both fighters careers. Spadafora is to old, slow, and doesnt have the power to keep Lubash away. The first few rounds Spadafora might hold his own because of his experience. Lubash would soon take over, Spadafora woud be KOed by the 6th round. THE REAL TRUE FACTS!!!!!!!
Jesse Lubash is bringing boxing back to the Burgh:
Boxing has always been one of Pittsburgh biggest sports. Long before Paul Spadafora there was Billy Conn(shown on right), Frank Klaus and many others. Now Im not going to bore you with the obvious history and decline of Pittsburgh pugilism, but I do want to educate you on the possibilities that are currently available to some of it's new stars. The Heavyweight division is essentially a No man's land with Klitchko taking out everyone in sight and with a relative ease that no longer makes it exciting. In fact most American broadcast network's wont even spend the money to cover it. With the traditional "money"class out of the picture for the time being, it has made room for more competitive and exciting weight classes such as the welterweight division.
Here in Pittsburgh we happen to have a few of our very own contender/prospects at this weight. The first and obvious choice would be Mckee's Rock's native Paul Spadafora. He is a baffling 45-0 and has held a world title belt. Paul's out of the ring problems are as serious as he is in the ring, and Paul even served time in prison in 2004. Paul offers a rugged and "slick" southpaw style that leaves many opponents un enthuastic to sign on the contract line. Unfortunately for Paul his style and record, along with the list of recent competition he has fought, has left him viewed as a un-attractive opponent for any of the division's top tier fighters. Paul's situation is a unique lose, lose that maybe a precursor to the Floyd Mayweather Jr. debacle if he is jailed on the assault charges. As mush as I want to see Spadafora succeed I am not optimistic about his chances. At this point, he would need to either get picked up by a major promoter/network, or be given a gift match up by another promoter. Both are possibilities, but I don't see logically how or why that would just happen. Most promoters are not going to throw their top tier fighter against a dangerous guy like Spaddy without a huge payday or a good chance to win.
The next in line is Jesse Lubash. Nicknamed "The Future", Jesse has a perfect 13-0 record with 8 KO's. He is scheduled to take on his toughest test to date in rugged southpaw Harrison Cuello. Jesse is a new breed of professional fighter, blending speed and power with a well versed knowledge of his own range. His trainer Tom Yankello has added to his skillset with a combination punching style and elusive defense. Although Cuello has fought some of the best in the business at welterweight, Jesse should be able to exploit some of his defensive weaknesses and blast Cuello out with powerful shots coming from different angles. Cuello, more than likely, will be stuck following Lubash and will be very surprised in the fire fights as Jesse is a puncher and is happy to stand in the pocket and trade. I feel Jesse will be able to bully the smaller Cuello and bomb him out late with a body shot, right hand combination. Assuming that Lubash wins and moves forward with his career, where does this leave him in the landscape of the welterweight division?
What are you talking about? didnt he already beat Cuello? And for the record I watched Paul COMPLETELY embarass Lubash in the ring after drinking a 6 pack in the car on the way to the gym,,True story. He may be a good fighter, but is far from being on Paul's level.

You must be crazy.

LUBASH CAN AND WOULD DESTROY PITTSBURGH'S SO CALLED BEST!!!
JASON BERGMAN one of the best, and soon to be the best......as big as a heavyweigh yet as fast as a welterweight!
Jesse Lubash is by far the very best boxer in Pittsburgh and soon to be the best in the world 15-0-0 with 9 KOs within the next two years he will win a world title his next fight will be Nov 12 2011 South Haven MS after that he will be fighting here in Pittsburgh around Feb. 2012 at this time he is living in Chicago, ILL and training at the JABB boxing Gym with Victor Mateo also working and training with Tom Yankello after an exceptional amateur career where as he KNOCKED OUT Sammy Vasquez (2nd round) then won unanimous Dec. in their 2nd fight, and went on to win the Pa state Golden Gloves titles (3 times) also 2008 Midwestern and Eastern Olympic trials at that time he was training at The South Park Boxing Club with Bob Healy (Muscles) then turned Pro with Tom Yankello. Lubash fought on the undercard of former World Champion Paul Spadafora at Heinz Field Vip tent in 2009 and stole the show and all we read about in the Post and Trib was out of the ring problems of some fighters Lubash is bringing boxing back to the burgh. Lubash's most recent fight in Pittsburgh was Dec, 12, 2010 at the Monroeville Convention Center where he won an 8 round unanimous dec over Harrison Cuelo JESSE (THE FUTURE) LUBASH THE VERY BEST BOXER IN THE BURGH!!!!!!!!
This kid is simply amazing, ive see him fight several times, he never dissapoints. with such amazing athletic ability and a right hand thats so devastatingly powerful mixed with his boxing and strait up fighting ability, the kid cant lose!
weather it be boxing/mma/street fighting, Jesse The Future Lubash will not lose, he fights with so much intelligence in the ring its amazing, he has fighters figured out befor he steps into any fight! And if you wanna talk about toughness, put the women and children away bc this kid is as tough as a man can get....he has so much heart and will to win and it shows in every fight hes ever been in. not to mention hes one of the nicest guys you could ever meet always having a smile on his face even entering his fights!
so go ahead and chit chat about whos the best bc this kid will prove it in due time! any one person listed in the forum Lubash will annihilate... I need not to say anymore
Jesse 'The Future' Lubash 15-0-0
OK somewhere apparently this turned into the best boxer in PGH. but come on.... You cant honestly believe ANY boxer could last even one round with any of the proven pro fighters that have come out of PGH. You can dickride Lubash all day but to say he can fight and beat the guys who have been training as long as Lubash has been alive and fought in some of the biggest MMA shows at the time is just retarded and insulting. No doubt hes a talented boxer and i wish him luck but im pretty sure hes not even stupid enough to make a statement like that......
JESSE (THE FUTURE) LUBASH is bringing boxing back to the BURGH!
paul whoops Lubash any day of the week...You Are kidding right.
Spadafora wouldnt last 6 rounds with Lubash he is to OLD, SLOW, and couldnt take the POWER. Lubash KOs Spadafora within 6rds. I heard that Lubash's management team tried to make that fight, however Spadafora's team said NOWAY it wont happen. So go ahead chit chat all you want, Lubash will prove in due time he is the BEST FIGHTER IN THE BURGH
Spadafora's people wouldnt't take the Lubash fight because nobody knows who Lubash is it couldn't generate any money. If he want's whooped I can make it happen. It would be a nice tune up fight for paul, He'll be ready for a fight in december. I don't know how my profile became anonymous.ONE1
You say Lubash is unknow? Outside of Pisstburgh Paul Spadafora is vurtual uknown, except for his out of the ring problems, and drug and alcohol addiction. Spadafora's last 7 seven opponents have been unknow. What kind of interest and or revenue could that have? Lubash vs Spadafora would sell out any venue in Pittsburgh. After Lubash KOs Spadafora Lubash will be Nationaly know for his athleticism, speed, power, natural boxing ability, and the onslaught of pain he delivers on Paul Spadafora
U guys must b smoking that shit spadafora was smoking cause this shit is tha dumpiest shit I've heard. Since I heard Lubash lost his balance ,His trainer said he hit into a pole he can't get rite, ru fucking serious. Spadafora was shot how many times he od how many times how many fights does he have. Wow he lost his balance mf he never had balance ru kidding me I'm get off cause ic this is no boxing site
Paul could walk into any gym in the country and is known. You must be a real idiot, look this kid has like 15 fights, you have to be joking, Paul has a fight lined up in january with either Bradely, Casamayor, or Guzman for well over 6 figures, on national tv. We are talking apples and oranges here, tell Lubash to win about 10 0r 15 more fights then holler, Yor going to get this kid hurt.
Spadafora could walk into any gym in Pittsburgh, and yes they would know him, Lubash as well. However, through out the country? Unless they were told who he is they would'nt know, and then they would only know of him because of the problems he has had outside of the ring, his drug and alcohol addiction, and the shooting of his girlfriend. That would be GREAT for Spadafora if its true that he has a fight lined up with one of the three fighters mentioned. We will have to wait to see how truthful YOU are. Bradely would walk straight through Spadafora. Casamayor and Guzman, they are on the down side of their careers Spadafora as well. Lubash is on his way to the top, and has caught my eye. I have seen this kid fight his last 5 fights he's getting better every fight. My personal opinion, he would take Spadafora apart. Spadafora is to old, slow, and does'nt have the power to keep Lubash away. LUBASH KOs Spadafora in 6th rd. GOOD LUCK TO PAUL SPADAFORA
Any gym in the country!!Wild card,Gleasons,Krunk,Top Rank,Mayweather boxing club etc...you name it they know paul immediatley, thats a fact now Lubash I highly doubt that. He is going to Glenn Johnson's gym in Florida next week..Bradley definitely would be the toughest fight for sure we can agree on that..Lubash KO Paul that's kinda crazy talk please be at least reasonable...ONE1
Lubash may not be known in every gym in the country, however he's on his way there. Lubash is certainly known in Florida ,Vegas, the Kronk, and currently living and training in Chicago Ill. I have seen Lubash fight as an amatuer and pro this kid is exposive with superior athletic ability speed and power. I really wish Spadafora well however, if a fight with Lubash is in his future, Spadafora will be KNOCKED OUT! You must try to be reasonable, the drug and alcohol abuse, and his age has caught up with him. It would be dangerous for Spadafora to be in the onslaught of Lubash's speed and POWER. If you have anything to do with Spadafora's career and care about him, please be very careful of who he fights. LUBASH WOULD BE DANGEROUS
Your talking like this kid is Marvin Hagler..lol
Prize fight 662-349-6263 Brian Young
holdup ... Best fighters are proven??? How many world champions has Pittsburgh seen??? ONE... Since Billy conn.. Paul Spadafora ... #1... How many were or on Tha brink of world titles??? #2 Monty clay...#2.....Calvin Brock fought ought of Pittsburgh.... He fought wvladamir klitchko!!!!!! Lmao...... Brian minto??? Cmon now... These r the only proven professional fiters... And all Were trained by Tom Yankello I mite add
And I might add, people are talking about the best fighters, not the best boxers. I got respect for all those guys and they all deserve to be in the conversation...but if you put them in a cage they get worn down like a cheap pair of shoes. So don't discount the other guys talked about in this thread, because in the right element they finish every guy you mentioned within the first round.
Shane (In ya face) Chojnacki, will be the best in the Burg If not yet! Goin for his Pro Debut this coming Saturday the 3rd of June..Lookn forward to see who's the Best..Love Mom
Lol..i bet you do love yourself Shane....joke
If your last name is Conway, you're surely one of the best fighters in Pittsburgh if not the best.
I'm glad to hear tht you think the Conway's are the best haha
i been watchin them fight for years and they never disappoint to put on a show. The oldest one fought nationally ranked fighters numerous times and the younger two pull their rank to follow the footsteps.
Dave Sachs has to be considered one of the best Pittsburgh MMA guys right now. I know I am somewhat partial after training with Dave for 2 years but he is a beast. Sounds like he hasn't lost a step after training at ATT for the last year and then moving on up to the Hackney Academy in Chicago.
my opinion here is purely boxing based as I'm a trainer at carrick boxing gym and dont follow the mma scene at all locally....but as far as boxing goes i think the best amateur boxer in the area is Sammy Vasquez......after Vasquez I think its gotta be Franchesca Wilkerson....and lets not forget about the little guys....Carter Cherry and Shawn Cusick could bang with anybody in the country in my opinion.....Carter Cherry just won the National Pal tournament a couple weeks ago...a few more names to mention Matt Conway, Hugo Garcia, Andreas Kameryou and Rob Calasante
These comments are so far from any reality,Paul is on a whole other level this guy won tha ibf world tittle defended it 8times was on HBO several times. I can c u talk about his lowery ass choices but his Game !u sound like a retard , tha truth is tha truth and time always tells tha truth this guy Lu ash is already gon Paul is just won a main event he is 37years old these guys were turning pro wen he was 38!0 now there gon and this fuck up is still here.I'm no fan of Paul but I'm a boxing junky, everyone steped up and everyone got beat. Paul is a def fuck up outside tha ring but don't hate on his game, he wins have u ever seen tha Sosa fight tha kid is more than just a boxer, c'mon dog I mean ru kidding me,he is tha first world champion since 1949 and u guys r talking about Lubash u obviously never heard of Carl Sullivan Eric podalak cuty pie Carl Jordan Danny glover Tommy Alexander tha list goes on and make no mistake of it everyone had a chance to b considered a world champ but so far tha only one that anyone can say they r tha champ is mrb own Paul spadafora . Don't hate !just talk strait have a good day and learn how to judge a boxer
Rod Salka is currently the best boxer in Pittsburgh he is 12 and 1, his next fight is August 26, 2011 at Court Time in Elizabeth PA. Come check him out, for tickets call 412 716 2220.
Cris custer was the best ground fighter by far in the area! Cris couldn't beat his mental demons to become a top mma fighter, if you saw his tony frykland fight you would understand. Bill vucik had the skills but his mental demons got the best of him in his past mma fights. Don kaecher is the top fighter in pittsburgh by far! His one mma loss was to a guy who was a known steroid user that overpowered don in their fight! Don also walked through every opponent during a golden gloves stint.
Donny Kaecher is without a doubt in my mind the best all around fighter in Pittsburgh.
if he is the best, pittsburgh sucks! hibler was 1-2, did custer ever fight?
Guess nobody ever heard of Bill Vucick??????????
You are totally correct “Anonymous”. Bill was a fantastic fighter who, I believe, suffered from a lack of proper management. He was willing to take a fight in MMA, kickboxing, or boxing against anyone, anytime. He is a fearless warrior. I personally saw him badly beat a Youngstown fighter in a boxing match. He won every round easily but lost the decision to the local Youngstown judges. If Bill had trained with a strong, established team and had the benefit of a strong camp and managers that could have guided his career with the influence to keep him from getting screwed by questionable promotions, his career would have certainly been much more successful.
Many of the fighters mentioned in this post all trained together before MMA was even popular. Mr. Hibler, Mr. Kaecher, Mr. Custer, Mr. Vucick, and a few others polished their considerable skills against each other. These gentlemen led the way for all the young MMA fighters in this area and should be congratulated. To their credit, most of them are still giving back to the MMA community today. Thanks for leading the way guys. All the local fighters and MMA enthusiasts are in your debt.
As for Mr. Vucick, for those that do not know, he is now serving our country in the US Army in an elite unit. It gives me great confidence in our military to know that men of his caliber have volunteered to keep us free! For those of you with religious leanings, he could sure use a few prayers for his safety. I, personally, would not count Bill out of the game just yet. Who knows what his plans will be once he SAFELY RETURNS after his service to our country.
Check your facts.
Cris Custer not only fought, but fought some guys who went on to have successful fighting careers. Tony Fryklund and Joe Doerksen notably. DK was a belt holder for awhile and is like 10-1 MMA, much more accomplished than any other fighter here. Also in grapplers magazine for spanking some south american standout. I am guessing you jumped on the bandwagon after TUF 1 came out? It happens man....
Old Timer: Frank Klaus, my great uncle. well decorated middleweight champ of the world, inducted into the boxing hall of fame, and sometimes referred to as the best middleweight of all time. Hes also a featured display at the Carnegie Sports Museum in Pittsburgh. Google him sometime when you are bored.
Current Day: Don Kaecher. Have you ever seen anybody at any weight beat him? Either at stand up or on the ground? NOPE
Swifty beat him...
Dan beat him in a grappling match, and don beat dan in a grappling match. Also don was in grapplers magazine for submitting 2 bjj black belts in a tournament b4. He also defeated Josh Rafferty who outweight donni by nearly 60 lbs at the time. I've trained with donnie for almost 4 yrs now and I've trained with Vucick who was a student of donnies. And I can tell you donnie is a beast. I have no doubt if he decided to pursue fighting 100% he'd go far. I'm thankful to have him in my corner and unlike most the trainers here he's actually on the mat sparring with us and rolling and doin the circuit work-outs.
Don K only fought 2 people with winning records, whats all the hype about??? Does the guy even fight anymore???
I figured this question would get some responses eventually hehe, and let me address your questions one by one. When I say best fighter In Pittsburgh, which is obviously subjective, I mean who in your opinion has taken a combat sport as far as it could possibly go at its highest level at that particular time. So obviously this could apply to any of the candidates you or I have listed, and I will show you what I mean. Cris Custer, who is a mutual friend, has a professional record of 4-2. Now, that might not seem like much but lets remember who makes up those wins and losses. Out of his 4 wins, the opponents he faced have fought at least 1 big name star such as sean sherk, luke cummo or mark hughes. His only two losses come by way of sub against two currently active UFC veterans in Joe Doerkson(see front page) and Tony Frykuland. My point being, even though he lost to Doerkson who was ranked #2 in the world at the time, it still should be taken into account that he was in the same ring or cage with the best in the world at the time. That would be similar if Paul Spadafora fought Floyd Mayweather at 147(hes currently ranked #2) in his 3rd professional fight. We also have to keep in mind that Cris had no amateur experience to speak of while spadafora had at least 20 amateur fights Now take Spadafora, he won a title and is undefeated blah blah And I am a fan. He obviously is a great fighter and should get his shine too, he earned it. But at the same time, he started fighting professionally in 1995 and did not face an opponent with a WINNING record until 1998. And even after he stepped into that uncharted territory, he still fought at least 2 opponents with a less than .500 record. This is not a bashing post but merely a factual question. If you fight the top 3 in the world, in your weight class but only fight a handful of fights, are you any less relevant than someone whos fought 45-50 times but only faced one or two legitimate opponents? And just so there is no hard feelings, the people I listed were just random name dropping suggestions. The fighters that I have listed are some of the more obvious choices that come to mind but by no means are all encompassing. When discussing personal favorites, I can only think of one excitable coach who loves the game more than most. See you soon Rimmy ;)
