Last night brought local amateur boxing to Pittsburgh by way of the ever popular Royal Place Restaraunt in the South Hills. The first fight of the night was a little rivalry action in a 154 pound bout that pitted cadet fighter Karon Sims from Cuddel Recreationg Gym in Cleveland against Tom Webster from South Park Gym in Pittsburgh. Sims demonstrated excellent timing and countering ability to take an easy and damaging win over Webster. The next bout was a demonstration of patientence and combination punching as Mike Spearman of Carrick Boxing Gym defeated Jacob Turnbull of WVU Boxing. THe next fight was a physically one sided affair as another WVU Boxing fighter by the name of Alex Balmer took many hard and fast shots from Isiah Wise of IUP boxing. The big boys of the night rumbled the ring, but the notable battle of the evening was between Steve Kimbrough and Brett Torres. The first round of the fight featured a much smaller Torres furiously attacking Kimbrough. At one point it looked as if the fight was going to end on a TKO at the hands of Torres but Kimbrough held on. The second and third founds were much different. It appeared that Torres lost all of gas in the first round, and from there on out it was Kimbrough delivering blows so powerful that Torres was given three standing eight counts. Eventually Kimbrough stopped him cold in the third for the come from behind win. For more information about local fights, check back here.
